Issue No (78) 766June 15 - 21, 2009 Main tendencies of political weekDue to objective reasons the main content of the informational background last week was the situation around the tandem and identification of main vectors of the next political season. Although Dmitry Medvedev clearly identified his position in an interview with China’s TV (he directly said he believed that retaining succession was the main achievement of his first year in office), attempts to substantiate the necessity of the “thaw” did not stop. Some adherents of this scenario tried to argue that otherwise Russia would face a revolution. Imprisoned ex-oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky had a ‘special’ position having published a program article. He proposed a “knight’s move” to Dmitry Medvedev, i.e. to conduct a judicial reform as, according to the author, it was impossible to implement liberalization without it. Mikhail Khodorkovsky in detail described all aspects of the proposed reform willingly or unwillingly limiting the space for maneuvers for Dmitry Medvedev, who treats the judicial reform as one of his mega projects. Another group of liberalization adherents hopes for the second wave of the crisis, which will allegedly be much stronger than the first phase. The recently posted statistical data gives reasons for the mass media to ignite pessimism around it, if not to indicate a noticeable worsening of the economic situation. At the same time, state authorities demonstrate their intention to make the anti-crisis struggle systemic. It is testified to by the approval of a new anti-crisis program by the PM as well as establishment of a government working group for mono-towns. Activities of governors, who finally heard signals of the tandem and joined anti-crisis regulation in their regions, also testify to manageability of the situation in the country.
